Diploma in Early Childhood Care & Education - Teaching (Teach-Out)

This course prepares the students for a career in Early Childhood Care and Education. It will provide the skills, knowledge and competence that will enable students to develop a career as a Pre-school Educator for children whose age range is between 18 months to 6 years. Students will learn good communication skills both written and spoken to effectively work with young children and their families. The DECCE-T is awarded by MMIA and accredited by ECDA.


Entry Requirement

For applicants who are:
(a) new teachers, i.e. not registered teachers: wef 1 Jan 2009
(b) existing teachers: wef 1 Jan 2013
GCE 'O' level credits in 5 different subjects, including EL1 (for EL teachers) or MT (for MT teachers)


Aims

  1. Enable trainees to transfer educational/child developmental theories into practice which provide wide-ranging, multi media and developmentally appropriate learning experiences to young children.
  2. Enable trainees to be skillful in observation and to apply their knowledge of child development to designing a learning environment that meets the needs of each individual child
  3. Present to trainees with a variety of early childhood approaches which facilitate a creative and developmentally appropriate curriculum

  5. Help trainees design, implement and evaluate learning environment and activities based on the curriculum framework and desired outcomes of pre-school education.

Mode of Instruction

Presentation of lessons will be done through lectures, small group activities and group/individual class presentations.


Assessment Mode

A combination of assignments, examination, observations, projects, group presentation, individual presentations, journals, essay and class tests will be held.

On acceptance into the course, you will receive a course manual and the necessary reading materials.

Awards

In order to obtain the Diploma, students have to successfully:

  1. complete 900 hours of theory (attain a minimum attendance of 80%)
  2. complete 300 hours of supervised teaching practicum
  3. complete all assignments and examinations
